Haydn’s Creation
will be ringing
out at cathedral
VIVACE Chorus will commemorate the

200th anniversary of Haydn’s death with
a performance of the Creation - the most
celebrated oratorio of the Age of Enlightenment — at Guildford Cathedral on
Saturday November 14 at 7.30pm.
The story has been told that, at the
Schwarzenberg Palace in Vienna, on 30
April 1798, there was an unusual silence
as the opening recitative of Joseph
Haydn's Creation began.

Then, as the orchestra moved through
the first choral piece and reached the
sudden explosion of sound at the phrase
‘and there was light’, the entire audience
rose to its feet and applauded.
Vivace would like to recreate the effect
at Guildford Cathedral this year with the
help of local audiences.

The orchestra will be The Bradenburg
Sinfonia and the soloists will be the
future stars from the Royal Academy of
Music. The choir, orchestra and soloists
will be conducted by Jeremy Backhouse.
