Jazz and choral combination
VIVACE Chorus will be singing
Mass in Blue by composer and
pianist Will Todd at its concert
And All that Jazz, in Guildford
Cathedral on Saturday, May 19.
Mass in Blue, a lively and
uplifting setting of the original
Latin text, was written in 2003.
It will be the culmination of an
evening of jazz-infected choral
music.
Lovers of jazz as well as
choral music will enjoy the
blend of choral writing and
powerful rhythms. Will's wife,
Bethany Halliday, will sing the
soprano solo.
Will is currently completing
- a commissioned clarinet concerto for Emma Johnson and
Wworking at the Royal Opera,
Covent Garden, with Genesis
Opera, developing a new stage
work.
Alongside Mass in Blue, is
John
Rutter’s ever-popular
Gloria. Another treat will be
Bob Chilcott’s Little Jazz Mass,
first performed in New Orleans
in 2004.
