Singing out for Christmas
FOR more than 50 years the Rotary
Club of Guildford has staged its
traditional carol concert in aid of
the Mayor of Guildford’s Christmas
Distress Fund.
The first was held at Guildford’s
Methodist Church in 1951 and since
then the concerts have become firmly

established as a popular seasonal

event to raise much needed funds for
this local charity.
;
The Mayor’s Christmas Distress
Fund provides small sums of financial
assistance to those in greatest need in
the borough - particularly around this
time of the festive season.
This year’s concert will take place at
Holy Trinity Church in Guildford High

Street on Sunday, December 11 at
6.30pm, when the Vivace Chorus - formerly the Guildford Philharmonic
Choir - will be performing favourite
carols and other seasonal music,
under the baton of their chorus master Jeremy Backhouse.
Wine and mice pies will be served

during the interval and the retiring
collection will be in aid of Guildford
Action, Mayor Tamsy Baker’s chosen

charity for 2005.
Tickets costing £7.50 for adults
(including a programme) and £3 for
children can be obtained from the

Guildford Tourist Information Centre
by calling 01483 444334 or from the

Electric Theatre on 01483 444789.
