THE highlight of Guildford
Philharmonic Choir’s next
season will be a trip to Freiburg, Germany, to sing Handel’s Messiah on September
~ This follows the recent visit of Freiburg Bach Choir to
Guildford to sing Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis at
Guildford Cathedral with Sir
Charles Groves and the
Guildford Philharmonic.
Freiburg is Guildford’s
twin town and so the Mayor
of Guildford Mrs. Mary
Lloyd-Jones, will also be going as well as the borough’s
chief executive, Mr. David
Watts, in order to support
the borough’s own choir.
The philharmonic choir
recently visited Paris to sing
Berlioz’s Te Deum.
It will be performing in
three major concerts with the
Guildford Philharmonic
. Orchestra next season: Verdi’s Requiem with Sir Charles
Groves, Bach’s St. John Passion with Neville Creed and
The Dream of Gerontius with
Vernon Handley.
The choir will begin rehearsing the Requiem on Sep-
tember 3 for a performance
~with Sir Charles Groves on
November 3. -
:
@ The choir is looking for
new members with good —
but not necessarily trained —
voices. Weekly rehearsals are
held in Guildford on Monday
evenings.
