The undoubted masterpiece from Handel’s Italian sojourn is Dixit
Dominus. The music is full of youthful exuberance and daring, the
like of which is to be found nowhere else in his whole output.
In complete contrast to this roller-coaster choral ride, we will also
sing two Lenten motets (by Lotti and Gesualdo, the latter perhaps
more famous for murdering his wife and her lover as they lay in
Waar eaet
bed) which are full of startling dissonances and intensity.
Requirements to join the day are a love of singing and choral
music, and £20! What you will receive in return is the
hire of the scores, tea and/or coffee, homemade soup
and a ploughman’s, the company of others who
enjoy singing and a day of music led by our
Music Director, Jeremy Backhouse.
